A Simple Place

A friend recently shared her joy in finally having a sense of peace and quiet in her household and SPACE - a room all to herself, a shrine, of sorts, to peace and simple pleasures. I felt her joy as the light in her eyes danced with delight as she described the gorgeous color she had painted the room and the way the glow of sunlight painted warm color onto her precious objects in the room. She described having placed one chair just for reading, and a small table, an altar for personal reflection and renewal. As if it was too indulgent she cautioned her story with a bit of fear it might go away or that she might not deserve it. Self-indulgent? No, rather necessary and important, I thought. Everyone should have such a place, a simple place of personal space to feel centered in this world.
