August classes
July 25th, 2012
Beginning August 10, I will be teaching The Sketchbook: Keeping a Field Journal.
My sketchbooks are my most cherished output of decades of creative work.
This set of classes will meet outside at various locations in the Olympia, WA area on Fridays 1-4p. Fees are $140 for 4 classes or $45 drop-in.
In this series we will tap into the stylistic elements of nature and travel journals. The primary foci will include 1) Steps to identify various flora and fauna features; 2) Translating observations to written and sketch notes; and 3) Personalizing your nature journal.
Demos will focus on different subjects each week such as trees, birds, water…but individuals may deviate subject-wise to apply demonstrated materials and techniques to that which is relevant to personal threads of intent.
The most important material needed is the sketchbook itself. You may have one already or want/need to buy one for the purposes of this class. Look for one with paper that feels heavy enough to accept water media. We will explore different combinations of writing, drawing and painting tools but some will require water.
Contact me if you are interested in joining us or have questions.
